I DID IT!!!
I'm very, very proud to show you my very first silicone painting.
Thank you Dana for inspiring me, for teaching me, and for believing in me that I could do it. You're a GREAT teacher! And most of all, thank you for including me in the "lucky 4" to get this adorable Zhang kit.
This baby is my personal collection. Not for sale.
First of all, I'd like to show you the unpainted baby. This is silicone Zhang by Sandy Faber with cloth body.
I cut out her silicone eyeballs with a curved sharp sculpting tool, tweezers and sharp nail scissors. Thank you KrisC for the tips. . It was a challenging task, but I enjoyed doing it. I felt like an eye surgeon! (I'm a frustrated brain surgeon btw ). I put temporary eyes which look a tad small for her eye-sockets.
She is platinum ecoflex 30. I believe.
WIP photos using my phone:
I worked on this baby for 2 consecutive days! I worked on her face for 5 hours on Wednesday night and on her limbs for 15 hours non-stop from 9am to 12midnight yesterday.
I find silicone painting more nerve-wracking than painting reborns, but I enjoyed it. It felt like when I first tried painting a reborn doll three years ago. I was so nervous and excited at the same time.
Here's her matted face, waiting for her body. I will leave her bald for now because my hands still get tingly and numb when I do rooting, but not when painting. Interesting hey?
After a long, 20-hour labour, I met my dream baby. I couldn't believe what I just accomplished. I cried as I cuddled her. I couldn't believe I was holding my dream baby. And what makes her even more special is that I painted her myself! I took some quick pics with my phone with bad lighting. I just couldn't wait.
She looks like she's cooing at me!
Here are some photos I took today. The weather was crappy again today in Vancouver (no kidding ), so it was hard to capture her true skin tone.
May I present to you.........
DA-XIA (pronounced as Dascha) meaning heroic.
Born: Sept 19, 2014 at 12:01am
Weight: 9 lbs
Length: 23"
with flash
I love those chubby thighs.
Natural light.
I love every inch of her!
I didn't paint all the creases because she has lots and they are deep.
Ok bu-bye for now aunties. Mama wants some cuddles.
Thank you so much for viewing.
Hugs,
Susan

Susan!!! You did such an amazing job! I am so very proud of you! You have already mastered silicone painting. Your sweet story and pictures really brought tears to my eyes because I could feel how much you love this doll. Stories like this remind me of how great the dolly world can be. BIG hugs to you and congratulations!
