Looking for tips on lightening/Neutralizing Dark Kits

Post by justfauxbaby » Thu Jul 05, 2018 6:57 am

I have a Jayden by Natali School that I am getting ready to work on and the lady that sent me the kit to reborn paid a ton of money for it and I want to make sure I do the very best I can with the kit. As most of you may know, the kit's vinyl is quite dark and very orange. I know the basics of neutralizing, but would love to know what others do to bring the dark vinyl to a lighter/more neutral base?

Do you have a color wheel?

I do not remember what I did with Jayden but a color wheel will help choose the right color to neutralize it.

Hi Debbie,
Yep I have a color wheel. I'm just wondering if using only neutralizing washes will eventually "lighten" the kit up enough? Or only change the shading. Hopefully that makes sense. I have been painting now for close to two years and the only other doll I remember that gave me a fit was a Karola Wegerwich kit that I think I finally put some white in some flesh layers to lighten but that was after many many neutralizing layers. Also it was before I had experience, so just wondering what more seasoned artist did in the past to bring the vinyl up to that lighter, more neutral palette to work from.

T really is a "gut" thing...trust your gut and yes, as many thin layers as it takes.
