I did it!

Post by hjungel » Tue Jul 09, 2019 4:49 pm

So, I painted my first doll (Summer Rain). I used Reborn FX air dry paints and I have to say, I think she turned out pretty good for a first timer. I did not like her lips or mottling, but her blushing, veining, and nails turned out great. Overall not too shabby for a first time, visually impaired work. lol Watching HOURS of YouTube videos paid off (and I got some spare parts through Macphersons).

However, I did realize that I am too blind to do rooting, nails were hard enough. I see about the size of the size of a hole at the end of a straw (and then sometimes a magnifier), so while it does help focus on areas at times- I have some trouble seeing a large area and after long periods I swear my eyes are bleeding! So, I will wait a bit and send her off for rooting eyelashes and newborn hair.

I pushed myself to do this and I am proud of her- sure she is not perfect but I did it! For that, she will always be that special doll. I do have an overall goal- to paint my own Saskia (a girl). I might do one more cheap kit before I dive into Saskia.

Summe Rain!

Thanks all! I have decided, I think I am going to push myself a bit further and at least TRY to root her. Worse case, the whole thing falls apart and I just have to buy another kit (I bought this one on sale). I need better magnifiers before I even attempt this. Magnifiers and patience- lol. so, it will be a while.

Congratulations, doesn’t it feel great! I remember when I completed my doll it took awhile before I could see any color, but when I did I was very happy!

Thanks again, all- the more I look at here, the more I see she is a little pale, so I may end up adding a bit more tone to her someday. For now, I just enjoy her and all her baldness glory! :-)
