Fairly large board update in an hour or two...
hey all,
Just letting you know that I'll be doing a pretty large board update here in a bit...it will need to go down probably for a couple of hours while I'm working on it. Some of it is functional stuff that needs to be updated in the background but I'm also going to be altering the look while I'm at it. I'm thinking around 11pm EST(hour+ from now) is when I'll begin.
thanks,
Steve

k....about done; board back on. There's a bit more to do but should be able to do it without having to lock the board. If you see any bugs please let me know...yeah, it looks different
thanks,
Steve

thanks,
Steve

Re: Fairly large board update in an hour or two...
Great job Steve. I did have a problem when I went to put a new post up....wanted to add a smiley and when I had to go to the "more" smilies it wouldn't let me off the page and I had to close down and come back again. The post never made it. Just a kink or possibly my computer. I have the newest Internet Explorer and it cancels a lot of things like enlarging pics say on ebay, or even in a post etc. Trying to protect my computer, but I find it to be a pain when I want to enlarge something. Any ideas? Linda ps Like the new format though. Thumbs up.....but don't want to lose the post by going to the icons.

Hey Steve!
This looks like it was MAJOR work.
Can you please reinstate the 'top' designator to each post?
That was one of the VERY nicest features of the site. It saved
tons of time.
Is it possible to bring it back?
Thanks,
Sally S.

yeah, it's probably the same thing that has prevented some users from accessing the additional smilies here recently. Most likely it's a known I.E. "quirk" with some javascript that pops up new windows and is a setting within the browser....the workaround was for me to put all of the smilies on one screen on the right so users with that issue could use them. I personally don't like the look of doing it that way but if another solution can't be found since so many want to use I.E. I'll probably just revert it to the way it was previously.Lindandlou2 wrote:Great job Steve. I'm not exactly sure what you mean.....could you describe it so I can understand it better? It took a bit to try and ensure all of the same features are still here though the layout is obviously different; I could have missed something.
thanks,
Steve

Re: Fairly large board update in an hour or two...
Sure thing, Steve.
In the lower left hand corner of the old posts, there was the word "top".
When it was clicked upon, you were immediately taken to the top of the page
you were on. It saved a lot of scrolling time.
Does that make it clearer or more like mud?

yeah, sure does....thanks. It's in a bit different place now. See the arrow pointing up on the bottom right of the posts? same thing....just an arrow instead of "top" and on the other side of the page. that's something that I suppose could be moved to the left, though...a lot of change all at once, I know
thanks,
Steve

I noticed that there was no view new posts button. Can you put that back.

Re: Fairly large board update in an hour or two...
Thanks Steve! I have found the "up" arrow and it will be just fine once I get used to it.
It might be a bit darker though .... I don't know how hard that is to do, so if it IS too
hard, I will just get used to it!
Change is always hard to accept, ya know. Even for us not so old "dogs"!

Re: Fairly large board update in an hour or two...
it's a link on the top left of the page along with the other similar functions... * View unanswered posts • View unread posts • View new posts • View active topics it's not going to display on every page, though...just the main index of the board.ElizabethBellaMiaBabies wrote:I noticed that there was no view new posts button. Is there any way to put the "view new posts" on every page instead of just the front page?

Re: Fairly large board update in an hour or two...
Sending you a pat on the back for all the hard work!
I have one question that hopefully you can answer. Before when I would go to a specific category ( example "Reborns Babies For Sale"), the new posts and any post I had not read previously were in a bold print. Now "all" subject lines come up bold. Can't tell by a glance if I've read them or not. Do you happen to know if that is the new set up or something on my end that I need to reset???
Thanks!
Anita

Hi Steve and group.....site looks good....just going to take some getting used to . Your efforts don't go unnoticed.....but there were things about the "old" views that were awesome that are not there now.

I like the new look although the colors are a bit bright for these tired old eyes.....
And how come I have to sign on every time I come back to DF? Used to keep me signed on unless I hat to reboot my computer....now I have to sign on everytime I open up DF in a new window......
Can that be fixed? Pretty please.

Re: Fairly large board update in an hour or two...
When I click BOARD INDEX at the top, it takes me to home instead when I am in certain sections...
Did we have a format similiar to this one several years back?
