Hi everyone!
I have found a supplier for some gorgeous Huacaya Alpaca hair to use for dolls. I have combed, washed, rinsed, combed again and double rinsed the hair and have it ready for sale.
Of course, I had to try the hair on one of my own dolls (she's a work in progress and I am rooting her with carrot shades of Angora mohair) to see how it rooted and if it laid flat and smooth. In the photos, the hair I used was the auburn shade from the alpaca Sienna and it is in the front center of the dolls head. I rooted it very quickly with a 42g PINK needle from McPhearsons. I think for this hair I will get some of the 46g needles.
I was pleased with how the hair rooted and brushed. I did not use any water on the hair in the photos. After I took the photos, I wet the hair down, as I always do while rooting, and allowed it to dry. That night I brushed and combed the hair this way and that, being quite rough on it (as I always am) and the hair brushed flat and smooth, did not pull out and did not break. Win-win!
Have you experienced Huacaya Alpaca before? I'd love to hear!
